年代の全米州立大学協会（NASU）における大学基準の策定に関する議論を明らかにした。1900 年代以前の全米教育協会（NEA）においてカレッジと高校との協働で高校の教育課程やカレッジの入学資格等が議論されてきたことを踏まえ、1905 年にNASUは高校と地域別団体の連合体（NCCSCSS）設置を発議し、高校や諸地域別団体との連携によるカレッジの標準化を模索し始めた。しかし、私立の研究大学を中心に構成されるAAUも同時期に大学基準の策定を試みはじめており、NASUもそれに追随し、1908 年に大学基準を採択した。このように基準の策定に際し主導権争いがみられたが、両者の動きを統合しようとする意見もみられ、1900 年代末には両団体の歩み寄りもみられた。これらの主要大学団体の動向が、1910
