As a result, it was found that no earthquakes occurred directly beneath the active volcano Kita-Yokodake, whereas microearthquakes occurred intensively in the area 4-5 km northeast of Kita-Yokodake. There would be low connection between these microearthquakes and volcanic activity. On the other hand, the investigation of seismic velocity structures directly beneath the Yatsugatake Volcanoes has revealed the existence of two low velocity perturbation regions at depths of 20 to 40 km, which are confirmed to extend to Kita-Yatsugatake including the active volcano Kita-Yokodake on the surface. This indicates that the two low perturbation regions may be hot diapirs that served as the magma source for the Yatsugatake Volcanoes. Additionally, the investigation of the Vp/Vs ratio has revealed that there is a high Vp/Vs ratio region in the trough between the two low perturbation regions at depths of 20 to 30 km. Since a high Vp/Vs ratio generally suggests that fluids partially exist, this high Vp/Vs ratio region may indicate partial melting.
