を高発現していることが知られている。一方細胞外マトリッ クス(extracellular matrix, ECM)や間葉系細胞はCD44 の主要なリガンドであるhyaluronan (hyaluronic acid, HA)を多量に有しているため,CD44-HA 相互作用の場として,炎症や癌細 胞の生存・増殖に重要な役割を果たしている。最近の研究によりHA の機能はポリマー鎖の長 さ(molecular size)により異なることが明らかとなってきたが,我々はCD44 を高発現している B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL)細胞株を炎症メディエーターである超低分子量 HA(ultra-low-molecular-weight HA, ULMW-HA)を用いて刺激すると細胞死が誘導されること を見出した。この細胞死はROS の細胞内蓄積とHMGB1 の細胞外放出を伴うネクローシスが主体 であった。炎症時におけるCD44-HA 相互作用の詳細な機能や,CD44 高発現腫瘍細胞の生物学的 特性についての理解が深まることにより,CD44 を標的とした悪性腫瘍の新たな治療が可能になる
