With a particular focus on the British and Japanese classrooms, the researchers were interested to discover which setting a group of Japanese university students preferred. An analysis was made of the group`s experiences on a study abroad programme to a university in the U.K. and compared to their experiences at a university in Japan. The findings indicated that the group tended to prefer the British style. Particular mention was made of the active rather than the passive style of learning, the variety of materials, and the opportunities presented to use, and therefore reinforce, what they had learned.
