This study intended to indentify the level and source of nocturnal noise present in the emergency room and neuro-surgical casualty ward, as well as to introduce noise reduction measures. We isolated and measured the noise level of 10 different sounds in the wards, and then took measures to reduce the noise level. Noise levels were measured again and were compared with the previous noise levels. The results indicate that noises related to the toilet, including fl ushing, and opening and closing the door, as well as the ringing of PHS were the noisiest, in that order. After noise reduction measures were taken, the noise level decreased signifi cantly in each case. A noise reduction project included putting a sign on the toilet door which instructed patients to please close the door quietly, and writing about the noises in the memo for the on duty staff. |
