In a survey conducted by us in September 1987,510 people were contacted by a questionnaire concerning the problem of the patient' s being told his malignancy. Of these 510 people contacted, 471(91%) people responsed. As analysis of these responses disclosed that 82% of respondents said patient's are told of their cancer. It seems necessary to establish ""informed consent procedure"" in Japan also so that the patient's rights may bedefended and the patient and his family's understanding of and co-operation in the performance of therapy might also be facilitated. |
